    Neidhart, a Bavarian by birth, spent much of his life traveling, once as far as Italy.

He divulges a great deal about himself in his poems, but it is hard to determine whether he is really talking about himself or about a «persona» of Neidhart who takes part in the action of his lyrics. These poems are among the most interesting and puzzling in medieval German literature.
