Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Damla Sönmez is an award-winning actor for her work in Film, Television and Theatre. She studied at Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III Theatre Department.

She was later awarded a scholarship to the Yeditepe University Fine Arts Theatre Department in Istanbul. She also attended Jillian O'Dowd's Contemporary Acting Workshop at the London Dramatic School of Arts and worked with Stuart Burney of Black Nexxus Academy in New York.

She made her film debut in Bornova Bornova(2009) which brought her the Best Actress awards in Antalya and Ankara Flying Broom film festivals, as well as the Sadri Alışık award. She recieved the Best Actress award for her role in Deniz Seviyesi / Across The Sea (2014) in Milan and in Adana film festivals and Sibel (2018) brought her 11 Best Actress awards in various festivals including Seattle, Adana, Muret, Eskişehir film festivals and London Film Week; she was nominated for the Best Actress award
